Birthday Yoga
Yoga Connections
Monday Nights in Castleberry Hill
Carolyn Carr decided to give her body a yoga class for her 50th Birthday. In celebration of her first half century on this planet, we focused on the part of the body that hugs, holds, and carries heavy loads: the arms. Where is my tricep? How do I rotate my bicep? What do I do to engage my arm muscles? We began to answer these questions experientially by bringing extra attention to the parts that help activate our arm muscles: fingers, palm, forearm, front upper arm, back upper arm, shoulder and shoulder blade. Here are a few of the poses we used to help us learn more:
Adho Mukha Virasana - Downward facing hero
Adho Mukha Svanasana - Downward facing dog
Baddhaguilyasana - Bound finger pose
We closed the class with the second Sutra of Patanjali, Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodha, which BKS Iyengar translates in his Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as: "Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind." Please join us next Monday night 7-8:30pm in Castleberry Hill.
